"The River is Flowing" is widely attributed to Sun Bear (Vincent LaDuke), a teacher and member of the Chippewa Tribe, though some folk music historians claim they traced it to the countercultural women's spirituality circles of the 1970s. Additional verses were added by E. Barrie Kavash in her 2005 novel "Sacred Cave" which is set in North America's prehistoric southeast. I've included the original as well as the additional verses.
